Meet An Alkaloid: Jamillah Warner
What are you working on right now?
91Grit specializes in stories and systems for small business websites. Our clients are incredibly diverse and currently include a non-profit, a local artist and a medical supplier.
Who is your ideal client?
Early stage entrepreneurs or small business owners who are struggling with clearly defining who they are. This level of entrepreneur tends to need assistance with stories and systems to lay a solid foundation online. Clarifying what they offer and how to share that message online is how we make sure their website works as hard as they do.
What is a common misconception about your industry or work?
- It’s not about creating a pretty shell for your brochure website ~ one and done. It’s about sharing what your audience needs and wants to hear from you. And then launching a smart, secure website that enhances your core message. It’s message first. Image second. That way your website’s look and feel has purpose.
- Your social media is not your home online. That’s the party. And when the lights come up as in they froze your account, their platform goes down (happened last year), you still have a home to send people to.
What is your big picture vision for your business?
When I run into my target audience in the wild, I get asked a lot of website questions. Some of those people become one-on-one clients but the others still need help. Digital courses and workshops are in my big picture. Simple step-by-step solutions to help them avoid some of these painful website mistakes.
What is your superpower?
Stories and Systems. My brain is extremely practical and extremely creative at the same time. When I look at you, I can see what makes you special and what tools to use to make it easy for you to share that message.
What is your favorite business or productivity tool?
I’m in love with SendFox right now. It’s a smart, simple and affordable way to grow your email list, and then, talk to those people who are interested in what you have to offer. Most small business owners don’t understand that the money is in the list, but it really is. And it’s worth testing it out. Which brings me back to SendFox. Because this tool only has exactly what a small business owner needs, you don’t get so lost or overwhelmed by the big bells and whistles. You just get the work done = email written, email sent.
What podcast should every entrepreneur listen to?
I like Online Marketing Made Easy by Amy Porterfield. Tips from that podcast helped me assist a non-profit at the start of the pandemic. There are a variety of guests, all talking about taking your small business online. I really appreciate her as a shy girl, turned 8-figure business woman. A great reminder that you don’t have to have the biggest personality to make a big impact. Just do what you do the smartest way possible.
The atmosphere. Here we are encouraged to be a community. To treat the space like it matters to us. I love that. That’s my own personality, so I gel with that.
What is your favorite amenity at Alkaloid?
The conference rooms are awesome for client meetings with plenty of space for social distancing. They look good and feel good too. BONUS: there isn’t any extra fee to use a room. Any time I have in-person client meetings, I bring them to Alkaloid.
If you were working from Alkaloid during the pandemic, how are you using the space?
I have greatly appreciated this community space during the pandemic. I meet with clients. I disinfect to leave it ready for the next person. We take care of each other. Love it.
What advice would you give someone considering coworking?
Coworking is smart. You get what you need for the budget you have. I also think it’s about finding the right space for you and your business, so it feels good to come to work.
Tell us a little more about your experience at Alkaloid?
I’m not a cubicle kind of woman. The diverse layout, the two story ceilings, the sun light finding it’s way into the building at unexpected angles, the conference rooms designed in the spirt of local Atlanta parks: all that creativity works for me. Because it’s married to function — mail, meetings and space to work, write, print, snack, whatever you need. That’s what I get at Alkaloid.
